Absence of historical temporal trends in monthly, seasonal, and annual streamflows for the Okanagan and Similkameen Rivers in south-central British Columbia, Canada

چکیده
The rapidly growing population in the semi-arid climate of southcentral British Columbia, as well as the legal implications of transboundary water agreements such as the International Joint Commission (IJC), have led to substantial interest in the hydrology of this region and debate over the resulting environmental management policies [1-12]. In a previous work [13], we showed that despite substantial increases in population and agricultural activities over the past century the net water yield from the Canadian portion of the Okanagan Valley has not changed significantly during this time. In the current study, we examine potential historical temporal trends in monthly, seasonal, and annual mean, minimum, and maximum streamflows for the Okanagan and Similkameen Rivers (Figures 1 and 2), as well as any time trends for the date to peak of the spring freshet on both river systems.

متن کاملEffect of Short- and Long-term Memory on Trend Significancy of Mean Annual Flow by Mann-Kendall Test
Climate variability and change is threatening water resources around the world. One hundred and fourtheen (114) stations from Reference Hydrometric Basin Network (RHBN) around Canada with at least 30 years continuous data (up to 2011) were selected to study the trend in mean annual runoff for different periods of 30 to 100 years in step 10 years by non-parametric Mann-Kendall test. Effect of sh...
متن کاملDeciding Graph non-Hamiltonicity via a Closure Algorithm
We present a matching and LP based heuristic algorithm that decides graph non-Hamiltonicity. Each of the n! Hamilton cycles in a complete directed graph on n + 1 vertices corresponds with each of the n! n-permutation matrices P, such that pu,i = 1 if and only if the ith arc in a cycle enters vertex u, starting and ending at vertex n + 1. A graph instance (G) is initially coded as exclusion set ...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal trend and change detection of temperature and precipitation of Kashafroud basin
The study of meteorological characteristics and its variability is important in assessing the climate change impacts for water resources management. Trend analysis of hydrological and meteorological time series is a method for determining the change in climate variables that is performed with different parametric and non-parametric methods. In this research, the annual, seasonal and monthly tr...
متن کاملAssessment of Climate Change at Spatiao-Temporal Scales and its Impact on Stream Flows in Mangla Watershed
The Mangla reservoir was built for irrigation as well as power generation. The variability in climatic variables (temperature and precipitation) at spatial and temporal scales affects the streamflows. To consider the hydro-climatic unpredictability, 50 years (1961-2010) record was scrutinized. The time series were divided in two periods of 25 years each (1961-1985, 1 and 19862010, 2). Results o...
